Can someone from the States check my download speed
Hey there someone from the States.
I'm hosted on Cirtex and my download speeds seem to have just crashed over the last few days.
Cirtex are saying that it's my ISP even though Utube etc all download to me really well.
Can someone on the US backbone check this file for download time - it's a 15 second vid but it takes me 2 minutes to get it.
http://www.fastmetal.tv/view/568/fiat-500-v-alpine/
Maybe someone else from Europe or Asia as well if you have time.
I think that Cirtex are spinning me a line because their servers are coming under pressure and I want to find out the truth.
Thanks all.

We had the same problem with cirtex, first across the UK, then Australia. Server speeds dropped to around 4kbps downloads and they blamed the users isp and a dud server in asia, cirtex's solution was for the user to contact the isp to get them to fix it... our solution, moved to another host. problem solved :)
Re: Can someone from the States check my download speed
Leki has said basically the same thing - was with cirtex - same problem.
No way can you even get near to the bandwidth allocation with these guys by the look of it.
Thanx for taking the time to reply tuberavers - you guys have saved me some ongoing grief.
Re: Can someone from the States check my download speed
Which server are you on?
I am on Milky, and they were doing extensive maintenance on it for a couple of days, which basically knocked me out. It's all running smooth now, except my log in functionality is all screwy now. I am wondering if a path to something got changed.
Re: Can someone from the States check my download speed
You can ping the website by going to start>run>cmd> and then type:
or whatever website you want to ping
and see what you get for a result.
Here's what I got
Code:
Pinging fastmetal.tv [67.159.44.57] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 67.159.44.57: bytes=32 time=64ms TTL=55
Reply from 67.159.44.57: bytes=32 time=63ms TTL=55
Reply from 67.159.44.57: bytes=32 time=63ms TTL=55
Reply from 67.159.44.57: bytes=32 time=64ms TTL=55
Ping statistics for 67.159.44.57:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 63ms, Maximum = 64ms, Average = 63ms
I don't think that's too shabby.
My connection is 6.5 Meg DSL
To compare, I did a ping on bizhat:
Code:
Pinging bizhat.com [72.232.152.186] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 72.232.152.186: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=51
Reply from 72.232.152.186: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=51
Reply from 72.232.152.186: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=51
Reply from 72.232.152.186: bytes=32 time=51ms TTL=51
Ping statistics for 72.232.152.186:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 50ms, Maximum = 51ms, Average = 50ms
And your video came through just fine on my end. No delay whatsoever and for what it's worth, I'm located in the Pacific Northwest.
Re: Can someone from the States check my download speed
Thanks for the feedback everyone
Sportsgaming - I'm on goofy, minty and milky - they're all slow at the moment although goofy is a bit faster today` I've also checked out your site and for me in this part of the world it's really slow to load - same as fastmetal and my other sites, it must be a location thing related solely to cirtex.
Grynmoors - great advice.
Ping was consistently around a quarter of a second over the long term. Incidentally almost neck and neck with youtube.
It must be server loadings which are causing my problem otherwise it should be rocking. Even though it's faster today I'm still sitting at over a minute to download that 15 second file. Your responses are 4 times faster than the ones I can get here. (who'd live miles from the backbone by choice?)
I think that I'll look seriously at a VPS

Here's what I get off youtube

Here's what I get from fastmetaltv at the same time:
Code:

Reply from 67.159.44.57: bytes=32 time=64ms TTL=55

You are on par with youtube from the pacific northwest.
Now, I know from gaming experience that if a game is being hosted in the USA or Canada and someone from like The Netherlands plays on it, the guys from the Netherlands lag while the rest of us have a screaming connection. I don't think it's a sever issue, I think it has to do with location and ISP and maybe the closer you are to the source, the faster it goes? That's the only thing I can think of.
Re: Can someone from the States check my download speed
well the ping and download speed are 2 different things, you could get great pings to a server but only download at 2KB/s ...or you could ping a server and get really slow response times but a fast download speed
Re: Can someone from the States check my download speed
Well then for what it's worth, I was able to view the video instantly with no problems whatsoever. :|
Re: Can someone from the States check my download speed
I viewed the videos, without interuption, just fine:)
