lighthttpd VS apache
hello i need an suggestions from you i am thinking to install lighthttpd in place of apache as apache is crashing a lot on my ded box , i use some vbulletin forums, vshare scripts and yabsoft megha file hosting script. will this benifit me ? are there any issues known with lighthttpd and Vshare ?

There are many people out there who prefer to run lighttpd versus apache. I will say that to use lighttpd with vShare versus Apache (complete replacement) will require you to redo your .htaccess file as lighttpd does not understand .htaccess (this only works in Apache). If your Apache is crashing constantly, your lighttpd installation will likely do the same. You will need to determine why Apache is crashing. It may be due to the fact that it may not be optimized very well. A well optimized Apache will work just fine. The benefit of using lighttpd is that it is lighter on CPU resources and can even allow for streaming media. The downside to it, however, is that it is single-threaded, which means that you reach a point in which you cannot further optimize it. All in all, it can be done, but I would suggest that you have some compelling reasons to make the switch before doing so.

hello thanks for reply apache is crashing because of scriprt " yabsoft megha file hosting " it creating too many connection to apache like an ddos attack apache is tweaked by management guys as far as possible , ram upgraded to max level 8 gb ,cpu is quad core xeon , please suggest what i do :( i cant afford another server for hosting just that script / site :(
