Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
If you are using vShare 2.4, you can upgrade to vShare 2.5 If you are using older version, you must first upgrade to version 2.4.
You can see vshare upgrade instructions from your version of vshare at
http://www.buyscripts.in/vshare-release.html
Before upgrading take a backup of your site including database.
If you are not familiar with installing scripts or upload in BINARY mode, don't do it yourself, get some one else to do this for you.
HostOnNet.com provide vShare upgrading for $5.
Updating files and Templates
To upgrade, download
http://www.buyscripts.in/vshare/upgrade_2.4_to_2.5.zip
Upgrade will overwrite existing files that have been changed from last release.
If you made changes in templates, you need to make the changed in the modified templates. You can compare two files using WinMerge.
Unzip and upload all files and folder to your server in BINARY mode. Overwrite existing files.
Upgrading Database
After all files are properly uploded, run the upgrade script by visiting the url
http://yourdomain.extn/install/upgrade_2.4_to_2.5.php
This will take care of database upgrade. Delete install folder after upgrade is finished.

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
My database was damaged in the transfer with an error. How can I get round this?
Current DB version : 2.4
ERROR: Unable to execute query
ALTER TABLE `signup` ADD `adult` TINYINT( 1 ) DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL;
Duplicate column name 'adult'

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
admin can you please stick to a standard when you change templates in future, sometimes you add Indentation to templates and sometimes you dont...then next update you swap it all round again. this makes it very hard and annoying to update all the templates with winmerge.

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
mods or plugins would be great. i agree, i made too many changes and i like how things are.

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
OMG...I just upgraded to 2.5 what the HELL MAN!?!?!?!?!?!
User profiles have NO PERSONAL INFO
for some reason the person's name has disappeared...
(DID YOU GUYS CHANGE the path to where someoene's name is??@?@?@?@?) WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!?!?!?!?
what was the reason for 2.5 anyway? I saw absolutely NO changes except for the admin which has new colors and then the other ton of errors

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
Please help!
I have upgraded one of my sites to v2.5 and when I use the import video feature inside the admin area I get a white screen. I am not referring to the import folder. I am referring to the import video and not the folder.
Basically, when I input the information and press submit the screen does white.
This is what I have done to resolve, but with no Success:
1. Uploaded all files again in Binary
2. Reinstalled entire site from scratch
Neither of these fixed the problem.
Lastly, I am using PHP4 on my server and not PHP5. This cannot be change as I am on a semi dedicated server.
Please help!

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5

This error is bacuse the field is already in your table.
Have you run the SQL file in phpMyAdmin ? Just open the SQL file and see all fields are on phpMyAdmin.

Yeah, this is one of the reasons that I am sticking with v2.3. It works great and I have made so many changes that I can't imagine doing that all over again even with winmerge.
I think this is the best script I have ever seen but I just wished upgrading was a bit smoother. I would just like to be able to have some of the new features of the newer releases without changing the template.
I think it would be cool if we had more mods available. So we could just "plug-in" the new functions.
Thanks, Jereme
This why I have also not upgraded and I'm still using the 2.3 version. Tired of messing with the template. The script works great and I appreciate the efforts that has gone into the further development of this script.
At some point I'll upgrade, but that will be when I have the time to devote to going back and changing everything in the template that gets reverted back went I upgrade it.

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
Hi! I have this message when I try to upgrade the MySQL:
Your database already upgraded to version 2.5
But, I just upload the files... It's a problem?
-
Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
Only reason for this is you already upgraded to vshare 2.5
-
Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
But I just upload files from the upgrade file downloaded from here.
When I try this step:
http://yourdomain.extn/install/upgrade_2.4_to_2.5.php
Say a message that my database is already upgraded to 2.5.
Then, I do not understand how my data base already was updated for 2.5 version

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
Check your tables and see if the SQL's in install/upgrade_2.4_to_2.5.sql already on the DB.

Video Import takes two cron jobs?
Hey,
I did the upgrade, no major problems to report other than the below.
Import video function seems to be not working quite right. When I go to import the video from another site (direct link to video), it comes back instantly saying "video is being processed." The video doesn't actually get downloaded until you run cron.php apparently. Then it must be run again to process it from what I can tell.
As well, if you put a link to a video that doesn't exist, you still get the same "video is being processed" window.
Delete All From Process Queue link comes back with an error about not being able to delete /videos/
Thanks.

This is not a bug. Import video need cronjob to work. This way you can continue adding new video to import queue, not waiting for video download and processing, if we do both at same time, on some servers it can get killed in half way creating problems, also it increase server load.

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
Is there any way that we can get a list of what was changed in the tpl files?
I did a vast amount of changes to mine. What if what you changed is something I removed entirely? I'd really hate to waste a week of my time remodding files unnecessarily. It would be great if there was a list that says what was changed in each tpl and css file.

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
I didn't think it was too much to ask. Maybe I'm wrong. :(

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
You can compare the cnaged file with the orginal file to see what changes are made.

Spaces in video name causing problems
I'm seeing a strange behavior in the upgrade:
I uploaded two different videos, one flv and one wmv, and both failed.
The debug.txt showed that in both cases, when the program uploaded videos with spaces in their names, it replaced the spaces with dashes, which I think is a great idea since Linux seems to hate spaces in file names. But when it goes to convert the video, it references by the original file name with the spaces, not the new name with the dashes, causing a "file not found" failure:
Case 1:
Original file on my hard drive: 15dec2006-per2 interview.flv
File as uploaded to the vshare "video" folder: 15dec2006-per2-interview.flv (note that the dash between "2" and "interview" was not in the original file)
File in the "debug.txt":
2007-10-04 19:11:34 File: /home/whahocke/public_html/video/15dec2006-per2 interview.flv
2007-10-04 19:11:34 ERROR: file not found.
Case 2:
Original file on my hard drive: Spurs Xmas1.wmv
File as uploaded to the vshare "video" folder: Spurs-Xmas1.wmv (note dash added between "Spurs" and "Xmas")
File in the "debug.txt":
2007-10-05 5:18:44 File: /home/whahocke/public_html/video/Spurs Xmas1.wmv
2007-10-05 5:18:44 ERROR: file not found.
I'm going to rename the files without dashes, and report back, but thought that you should see this.
By the way some AWESOME AWESOME improvements in the last update, especially in the way things are worded in the templates and all over the program. You should really give yourself a pat on the back, admin, because you are doing a great job on this script. It BLOWS AWAY any cheap or expensive bullshit script I've seen anywhere else.

In video_conversion.php, find
Replace with

Spaces in video name causing problems
File already has single quotes around the variable....
In my installation, it's acting like a routine to rename file with spaces to the same file name but hyphens instead of spaces, but forgets to set $video_src to the new value...???

Can you verify this file exists on your server ?
I uploded a file with name "Spurs Xmas1.wmv" to http://video.bizhat.com and it is working fine.
Do you have progress bar enabled or not ?

My files are too heavily modified to compare to yours to see what has been changed, so this isn't really a solution.
In order to do this, I would have to first download an old version of the files. I can't do this, because my download link now downloads version 2.5, so it's senseless to download that to compare.
Surely you know what you changed. What is the harm in putting out a little documentation to say style.css had x, y and z changed, tpl files had a and b changed?
I dont think this is necessary with most files. But when you start changing template files and style sheets, it would only be a basic courtesy to let people know what the changes were, since these are the files that most people would have changed when moving away from the look of the "out of the box" template. If you had some kind of basic documentation, this upgrade would take an hour. Without it, it will take me over a week to (unnecessarily) remodify all my template files, and I suspect it would be all for nothing since I've already fixed most of the errors you had in those files.

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
foxxy what i do when updating my templates since i have changed them all a lot is always download every full release and upgrade that comes out and store them.
when a new version comes out (for example 2.5) i would then compare the 2.5 upgrade with the 2.4 full version and then transfer the changes to my own templates. unfortunatly there is a lot of pointless changes between 2.4 and 2.5 such as spacing which makes it hard to compare.
If you don't have 2.4 full to compare then maybe admin can provide it for you.

This will only upgrade MySQL database, you need to upgrade your files also.

Is that suppose to be all I get when I run the install/upgrade..... file?

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
And what the heck happened to all the alignments in my right.tpl file? All my headers have shifted from being left aligned to right aligned, except for one, which is centered for some reason. All the user names in the recent users list have gone from left aligned to centered. It looks unorganized this way, and what's worse, when I try to change it I am unsuccessful.
I have to concur with the other guy - when you start changing up the teplates, you should also include a guide that tells us what was changed and why.
How about publishing a version downgrade that will put us back to 2.4? lol

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
Now when I logged out of my user account (not admin), I get this error:
Quote:
ERROR: Unable to execute query
SELECT * FROM poll_question WHERE start_date<='2007-10-12' AND end_date>='2007-10-12' ORDER BY rand() limit 1
Got error 28 from storage engine
Refreshing did nothing - still got it. Closed the window and went back to the site from scratch - still got it. No idea what's up with this but I see no reason for it.
I tried to log in to admin control panel to delete the poll to see if that corrected the problem. This is the first time I tried to log in since the upgrade. I could not. Three times I entered my user name and password (no chance of mistyping). All three times I just got a message saying "You are not loged in." What kind of nonsense is that?
Seriously, if anyone out there is thinking about upgrading, I would reconsider. I personally wish I had stayed with version 2.4. I had already edited most of the bugs anyway, and at least that version worked right. This version is totally screwed, and it seems as though admin just abandoned this topic after sticking us with this stuff.

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
I had several problems.
The script did not upgrade. I had to do it by hand. The database does not like you!
While you have added the horrible WYSIWUG - HOW TO DISABLE IT????
You have cut off putting forms in the help or contact/info pages! In fact you have made it impossible to put anything but stupid simple HTML in the pages so that interstitials cannot be part of the site anymore. WHY????
You made all the about, privacy, advertise, etc go away in this process and there is no warning. HOW DO I PUT A FORM IN THOSE PAGES?????

Re: Upgrade vShare v2.4 to vShare 2.5
I have never had 2.4 because of my recent puchase, but I have complained of this problem since getting my v2.5 going.
viewtopic.php?f=3&p=8695
The only way I have found to get around the filespace issue is to install the Progress Bar code. The space issue is a bug that I think exists in 2.5.
The other major issue that I had and now I think you all are finding is that 2.5 does not import files correctly from other sites or from its own upload directory.
Lastly, I have never seen batch processing work but that would require more cron investigation on my server. At least Realtime processing is working.
-server is Dreamhost!?...

To everyone who is voicing the same complaint...... Simple solution: accept the program as it is, or just don't do the upgrade.
OR do what I am doing, and don't make extreme mods until the features are fleshed out.
I'm surprised how demanding people get on a $10 program. You should go buy one of the $250 scripts out there and work with that. This way, you never have to worry about new features being added, and instead of getting radically upgraded versions for free, you can just take the annual $100 upgrades.
I keep buying more copies of this script, because I can see that the programmer has vision, and listens to people. I know I'd never be able to moderate this board without ONCE in awhile bitch-smacking someone. I notice Admin never loses his cool.
Much much more than $10 would ever buy from me.... just my 2-cents.

[quoteth "dcaceres"]If you pay, you have rights to demand a good service, thus it has cost 10 dollars[/quote]
If you pay $10 for ANYTHING, you have gotten the "service" within the product.
You tell me where else you can pay $10 for something that DOES WHAT IT SAYS, and then go somewhere and bitch to the creator about what it DOESN'T do.
In my opinion, for a software script this evolved to only cost $10 is a great deal with no support whatsoever after the download link.
You'll notice that most people are polite enough to recognize this, and when they have a bug report or feature request, they are neither demanding nor complaining about it... they are trying to be helpful to the production team.
Then there's the few complaining and making demands, who probably still have their mothers doing their laundry and fixing their lunches, because they sound clueless about business in the real world.
