Does it matter if you install at a shared host?

Shared is dedicated server, but used by many users. So it depends on how big your web site is and how many other host on the same server and how much each of the sites tax on the server.
If video is not converting on the server, it can be problem with mencoder or its options, read

Try the script and see if it works, also post the link so we can see what is happening.
