Does the passwords used for vshare have to be MD5 ? it's just that I'd like to export all our staff from our ldap system to give them individual usernames and passwords for vshare but there passwords are smb5 hashed.

Currently, yes. The only way to change the hash type would be to change the login and password functions of vShare. Unfortunately, version 2.6 is encrypted so you can't change the hash. In the next version, you should be able to.
OK I'll keep my eyes open for the new version, any times scales yet ?? :D
