What happens to your tpl files when you upgrade?

I have spent a lot of time customizing my template files so that it does not look like an "out of the box" install. http://www.eskillet.com

My question is - What happens when I upgrade to a newer version of vshare? Will I simply receive a set of upgrade files that leave the tpl files untouched or will I have to re-apply ALL my changes every time I upgrade?

you have to compare the files with winmerge which is a great program that shows you differences in the files.

you can do it in 2 ways, compare the new templates directly with your templates and copy what ever changes you want across. this is fastest but if you have changed a lot of the templates the amount of differences will be too much and too hard to compare.

so the second way i do it is compare the old original template with the new original template and then copy the changes to your own template.

Perhaps it's possible to add this type of file with the upgrades ?
