bad link for Groups htaccess troubles?
Dear All,
I'have istalled vshare correctly on youdives.com, but clicking directly form the home page in groups i'm redirected to te following link:
http://youdives.com/groups/featured/1
and the italian browser mozilla gives to me this error message:
Firefox ha rilevato che il server sta redirezionando la richiesta per questo indirizzo in modo che non possa mai essere completata.
that in English sounds like the link is not resolved due to a bad redirect.
my technician says that is a problem in htaccess file, infact for all the other rules does it works correctly but for "groups" does not!
could you please help me?
thx in advance!
Really Nice product!

Re: bad link for Groups htaccess troubles?
Try re-uploading your .htaccess and make sure this is in it:
Code:
RewriteRule ^group/(.*)/members/(.*) group_members.php?urlkey=$1&page=$2
RewriteRule ^group/(.*)/videos/(.*) group_videos.php?urlkey=$1&page=$2
RewriteRule ^group/(.*)/add/(.*) add_video.php?urlkey=$1&page=$2
RewriteRule ^group/(.*)/fav/(.*) add_favour.php?urlkey=$1&page=$2
RewriteRule ^group/(.*)/topic/(.*) group_posts.php?urlkey=$1&tid=$2
RewriteRule ^group/(.*)/invite/ invite_members.php?urlkey=$1 [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^group/(.*)/ groups_home.php?urlkey=$1 [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^groups/(.*)/(.*)/(.*) groups.php?chid=$1&page=$3
RewriteRule ^groups/(.*)/(.*) groups.php?category=$1&page=$2

Re: bad link for Groups htaccess troubles?
Since this sounds like an isolated incident, you might want to contact your web host support for help. Maybe something's not right on the server.
Also try reuploading the groups.php in BINARY or worse case scenario, reinstall vShare. Try installing it at a "test" location on the server an see if you get the same results. If you don't have a problem with vShare at the test location on the same server, then you know it's an install issue with the working site. If you do have the same problem then it's probably a host issue (my guess)
Re: bad link for Groups htaccess troubles?
What version of Apache and Mod Rewrite are you running? Depending on your Apache and Mod-Rewrite version, the nested rewrite rules will not work. You may need to upgrade Apache (or have your host upgrade it for you).

Daar Friends!
here below the server's configuration:
apache + mod_rewrite
Apache/2.2.3
Server MPM: Prefork
rewrite_module: (shared)
system: GNU/Linux Debian stable 4.0
In God we trust! LOL
:P
Re: bad link for Groups htaccess troubles?
Sorry Guys!
someone can help me to solve that problem?
THX!!!!! :( :( :( :( :( :(
Re: bad link for Groups htaccess troubles?
Yes, I suggest you contact the tech support where your site is hosted as no one else experiences this problem. It's either an installation issue or a host issue and I think it would be a safe bet to say that it's a hosting issue.
Re: bad link for Groups htaccess troubles?
Thx,
but the hosting, is an housing of a dedicated server managed and owned by my friend.
So i think that should not be an hosting problems!
No ones have had the same truble in "installation history" of the product????
thx in advance for the answers!
BYE!

From this reply, I hate to assume anything so have to ask: Did you actually verify whether or not it's a hosting issue? Even friends can make mistakes and there could be a problem somewhere on the server because no one else is having this problem but you. If it's not a hosting issue, then try re-installing the script and make sure you upload all files and that you do so in binary because the only thing I can think of after you verify that it's not the host, that it must be an installation that's gone bad or a file become corrupt somewhere along the line.

You need to upload ALL the files in binary mode. (the templates - .tpl files - are an exception but doesn't matter if they go binary or not).... If you uploaded the zip file and decompressed it, the permissions could be wrong. You should unzip all the vshare files on your hard drive then upload them. Make sure you set the permissions properly according to the install instructions.
Re: bad link for Groups htaccess troubles?
Nice catch mersh...I didn't notice the part where he decompressed it directly to his server rather than unzip on his harddrive and then upload it in BINARY. Like you say, the permissions is oh, so important! So, it's probably an installation gone awry both with not uploading in BINARY and then also setting permissions. Double whammy. It's a wonder the site works at all...
Re: bad link for Groups htaccess troubles?
I think some installations will set the ownership of unzipped files to the person doing the unzipping, which would work fine if you're logged in as the user of the site rather than server root. But sometimes I've noticed strange ownerships on files that I've unzipped on the server, like they're owned by "user983" or some other non-descript thing like that - the username came from the machine where the files were zipped.
