Protect your ideas from thieves!

My site's (incomplete) design and coding was stolen from me by a member of this forum: Anthony Edges.

He did this by going to the .tpl files and downloading them directly at OMGWTFSEX.COM (an adult vShare site).

If you go to http://www.yourvshareurl.com/templates/ANYFILE.tpl, that file will pop right up in your browser so it can be read and/or downloaded.

To prevent this from happening, please add the following information to the .htaccess file in your root folder:

Hey Dragonetta thanks for the heads up I didn't even know this was possible.. wonder why vshare team hasn't added it as default setting in vshare script.

You're very welcome, Templar. I'm very grateful that I discovered the problem myself. I guess I have a thief to thank for that.

I know the coding really well on those templates, so I know what can be seen by viewing source and what can't be seen that way. You can see the result of the variables, but you can't see the variables themselves by viewing source, so I knew that he'd had access to my .tpl files.

By instinct, I just typed in a direct URL to one of them, and when it popped right up at me like a jack-in-the-box, I knew that's how it had happened.

That's what happens when you don't cheat. You actually learn something.

Thanks for this valuable tip. I have a highly customized vShare 2.8 beta script at www.80TOONS.com (I coded the mobile version from the ground up). This will help to protect my coding from people stealing it. If you are going to steal the code at least put a link to where you got it from.

You can't protect your .css files in this fashion, but I've been informed that it may be possible with .php.

I visited your site, and I like how you are fixing it up, but I didn't like the fact that www.80stoons.com took me to Back In The Day Videos - YouTubeToon.com - <<<< Welcome Back to The Past.... <<<< without my knowledge or consent. I don't appreciate clicking on a link thinking that I'm going one place, but actually winding up someplace else.

I also don't like the ad that comes up while I'm trying to view your site. I really hate being forced to view ads before I can view the content.

I would find the experience of visiting your site more enjoyable if I didn't have to encounter those two little things.

Thanks for your input. I use www.80TOONS.com url because it is a shorter and easier to remember url instead of www.YouTubeToon.com and when I watermark the videos it takes up less space in the video. However I will look in to ways to change the site url with out breaking the links and bookmarks already established. Also I started this site over 10 years ago as " Back In The Day " under someone else's url (BackInTheDay.OtherSite.com) and now the name BackInTheDay.com is already reserved to someone else.

Also I do agree with you the entrance ad is annoying, but it dose help to pay the server bill. However I am considering removing it because it may be doing more harm than good. Believe me I absolutely HATE those pop-up windows and those sites that force you to take "free" surveys or to "vote" for this site before you see their content and I will always stay away from those kind of "ads" (I consider them to be spyware).

I will keep an open-mind to these and any other thoughts when updating the site.

I got your message and im working on it right now. Thanks so much. Will this code also protect the tpl and css files also. you said something about protecting them in the previous message. i assume so. Also do you you guys have a link for browse dectection and i do u know where the page in the forum with the codes for the new moblie ablity.
If you can help me out i would appreciated. Im sorry i have one more question i dont want to be a bother but i just started a new job and have been working like crazy and havent been able to concentrate on my site i also need a way to boost my memeber score so it will look like i have more members i seen it somewhere on the forum and how to add a blank template page still havent firgued that one out just yet.

That would help me out so much if you could do that for me. directed me to those links.
And is there a 2.8 i have 2.7. I think somethings wrong with the comment area seems like when you comment you cant make spaces between sentences.
