When i import a video or use bulk youtube import , i find this error in cron.php

but nothing happens, still the same problem.
I'm using a video shared hosting.

In order to bypass this problem i usually update manually the database and continue the job. is there any "automatic" way.

As my host don't offer custom php.ini, if i make a modification in htaccess with php_value or php_admin_value, i found an internal error 500.

So, i changed $sql = "UPDATE `process_queue` SET
status='2' , file ='$file_name' WHERE `id`=$vid";
mysql_query($sql) or mysql_die($sql);

to the line 91 of functions_upload.php

and now it works perfectly.

How big are the videos that you are uploading? When vShare starts the conversion process, it establishes a connection to mySQL. When the process finishes, it attempts to update mySQL with the information for the videos. If the time between the start and finish is greater than 30 minutes, then you would still get the Database has gone away error. With a timeout of 30 minutes, it sounds as though either what you are uploading and converting is very big, or your server is taking an unusually long time to convert.

The biggest file was about 15 minutes long. But it times out on videos as short as 7 minutes. The entire process goes for about 4-5 minutes before it times out. The average 4-5 minutes videos convert fine with no problem.

My host ensured me that they increased it but I have now way of knowing for sure. I am just taking their word for it.

Ask them which timeout limit they actually changed and if they restarted mySQL after the change. By default, BTW, the limit is set to 8 hours. They are telling you that it is set to 30 minutes, but if it is timing out before 30 minutes, it is obviously not set to 30 minutes.

I asked them to increase the MySQL server timeout and I actually restarted the server myself. So you said by default the limit is set to 8 hours. That would mean they actually would have decreased the limit to 30 minutes? Should I ask them then to set the limit to 8 hours?

Are you on a dedicated server (or virtual server)? If so, you can actually check the my.cnf file yourself (usually /etc/my.cnf) and see what they set the wait_timeout limit to. By default, it's 8 hours. However, setting it that high hurts performance which is why most host set it to something much lower than that (usually 5-10 minutes).

Im on a vps right now. Can it bee seen from WHMpanel? I can't find it from /etc/my.cnf

I'm not sure about the WHMPanel (don't use Cpanel or Cpanel products). However, you can see it from SSH (logging in via SSH as root).

So it looks like I can't get access that way. Unless I put in the wrong command

I can browse around and see if I can find away to find that file. I am pretty sure the limit is not set to 30minutes.

You have to open the file in a text editor of some sort (such as vi or nano). I.e. "vi /etc/my.cnf" or "nano -w /etc/my.cnf".

There is the problem right there. Basically, that is saying that after 30 seconds, close mySQL. That is obviously not set to 1800 like your host stated. I would sit it to 900 (15 minutes) and see if that works. If not, you can increase it further.

Ah I see. How would I actually change it using putty. Is it just like setting a cron command?

I accidentally deleted some important lines because I tried to just change the time out command but didn't realize I had to change them all at once.
Al my sites were down that hole time, and I almost had a brain spasm. But thanks for the info. Although I havent tested it yet Im sure it works.

Hey bplex I appreciate all your help with this so far and I don't expect but so much help. But now the videos I convert are not streaming and the player has no time at 00:00. The videos are converting and the time is in the descr, but when I click through to like skip forward nothing happens and the video just keeps playing. I am importing wmv files so they can be watermarked. I have tried ffmpeg and mplayer but same thing. Do you have any idea what could be the cause?

PM me your site's URL. It sounds as though your PHP execution settings may be set to low (PHP is timing out prior to it updating mySQL with the video information).

From what I can see, you're loading your own php.ini and that's fine. Also fine is the info in your DB. Does your server run mod_deflate or or mod_gzip?

Im not sure. I would have to ask them. But there are supposed to be no restrictions on my server.

My host just respoded and said no my server doens not run mod_deflate or mod_gzip. Is this good or bad? Is this the cause why those videos are not streaming possibly?

I am still having problems with this. I am seeing what looks loke a error in the conversion log. It look like it has something to do with the streaming.

Hey, I think I got it. For one thing my path to php was wrong. So when I got that right the crons are running and the videos are converting for the first time by themselves :) Before The entire site would have to wait until a video was converted. After I deleted the debug.txt I was able to get a video converted and it is streaming in the player. So far so good. This has been months of headache solved tonight :)
