Import Video from URL for vShare 2.1 Release: 20070625

You can now download video from url and add to your site.

If you are using vShare Release: 20070625, download

Not available for download as it is part of latest vshare

unzip and upload to your server in BINARY mode. After doing this, login to admin (you may need to clear cache in your browser), you will see a new link "Import Video".

To import a video, you need to provide url to the video file. With this feature, you can now upload video with FTP to a web accessible folder, then use the url to add the video to your web site.

To import video from sites like YouTube.com, you need to find video url first. You can use sites like http://keepvid.com to find url of the video file.

Current version of import script only work if the file download url have a valid file extension (google video do not have this, some youtube video is from google).

You can only use this if you are using vShare release: 20070625, if you are using older version, it can break your site, so first upgrade to latest release.

Very nice feature Admin .. well done. Will this ever be part of the user upload area? rather than only admin?

We have not yet planned to include this in user upload page. If we allow users to upload from url, it can overload the server by doing multiple uploads at a time as video conversion take lot of CPU.

OK fair enough, that makes sense .. could uploads be queued in any way? I'm not a coder so I wouldn't know. Still a great feature all the same if not :)

You are not using latest release of vshare, check my post, it clearly says it will work only if you are using release 20070625.

xony i had to fix someones site yesturday that had similar symptoms, it turned out i had to reinstall all of the updates of the script as he had jumped one and that was all it was, works perfect now.

Downloaded it again, and FTP'd it up from work, this time on my laptop, and voila! it works.

Go figure huh ?

AWESOME JOB admin... thank you SO MUCH! Downloaded, uploaded in binary, took fifteen seconds and there was the tool. Huge feature upgrade!

Perhaps there's a way to let users insert whatever link text is provided by their video servers, ie, the Iframe embed code?

Also, perhaps in a future release, you can improve this feature by letting the admin add a local flv file using a relative path, ie, /films/reefer_madness instead of http://www.site.com/films/reefer_madness - and in so doing, the program will recognize it as a local url and NOT do the wget, but use the local path to the file for the database append, treat it like it was just wgot, and do everything from that point on as you have it.

But I don't want that to detract from the fact that this is a pretty decent tool you've provided. 8)

Confused

Hi there - I finally got around to upgrading my site.
Thanx for all of the bug fixes admin.

However I am confused - does the new 'Import Video' link actually suck the whole vid down from a url like http://youtube.com/watch?v=fVM3vMylehA

or is there a necessity to upload via ftp and then convert?
If I try a direct suckdown (technical term) all I get is the error message: Invalid Video Format. Allowed file types are :
And nothing else.
Can anyone who's got it working enlighten me.

Present version only allow download if the file have a valid extension. Some of the youtube video have .flv file extension, not all.

No it's not. "Stack overflow" errors on every link except the one to the video that tells you how to upload video. Nothing there works.
