The characters are being escaped to their ASCII codes, but are being displayed back as plain text (versus HTML). I do not believe that this script will work with non-latin based language characters.

I've heard of it being used with Hebrew and Arabic. Maybe check with AMIR (search for this user) as he translated this to Arabic. He might be able to help.
If it's not fun, stop doing it!
