Having site statistics on the front page is a feature that came out with version 2.4. You will need to upgrade to have that. I do not know about the problem with features.

just edit the vid in admin panel and select it as featured

Users can put a feature request by clicking "Flag This Video" under the video, then clicking "Feature This!"
I dont think it's really that clear of a process to the average user though. I've been thinking about just adding a "Feature This!" button.
