ADDING FAVORITES won't work for users !!!

It's not really part of the installation (methinks) but I don't know where else to post this question:

When I log in as a registered user on our own videoclip portal with a free account, I'm not able to watch a videoclip, followed by marking it as a favorite of mine. Does anyone know what the problem with this is? The link for adding a favorite works, but when I use it a message shows up which says that the clip may not be added as a favorite. FF3 or IE7, doesn't make a difference.

I need to know either how to change this so all users, even ones with free accounts can add favorites, or, if that can't be done, then I need to know why it won't work so that I can explain this in our quick help section (separate from the regular help section).
Any useful advise would be appreciated.

If your free users are not able to view videos, this sounds like a package problem. What does your "Free Trial" settings in your admin look like?

As for favorites, the favorites link is controlled by the video_add_favorite.js file (opening and closing). However, the function of adding a favorite is controlled by video_add_favorite.php located in the Ajax directory. This file, unfortunately, in encrypted and cannot be modified.

Thanks, but you misunderstood ... or perhaps I should've phrased it differently. The packages work fine.
If someone with a free trial package wants to view videoclips, there's no problem with that.
They can also add groups, friends, etc.

Only AFTER having viewed a clip, while still in that same screen, the user cannot mark the clip that he or she just viewed as a favorite. The other functions on the same screen work just fine, to include reporting an inappropriate clip, and so on. Only when the user wants to add the clip as a favorite, that message appears.

Since I'm still working on modifications & translations there are only 3 users and 5 clips total until all of the work is finished. I'm wondering if this could have something to do with the lack of available clips? BTW, I'm experiencing a similar problem when the logged in user clicks on GROUPS from the main menu on top. Although the browser link on the bottom left clearly indicates that groups.php should be the link destination, this destination in fact comes up as ... featured/1 ... which doesn't work as there aren't any featured clips yet. But even when I attempt to mark a clip as featured, thereafter receiving the message that this was accomplished, I still can't tell any difference in the portal which once again leads me to think that it has to do with the current lack of videoclips ... ???

The first problem I'm not sure about as I have not experienced that (grant it that I do not have any packages setup). As for the second issue (marking a file as featured), the language on that is a bit misguide. It should state "Suggest this to be featured." When someone clicks on that, it simply flags the file to be featured in your admin panel located under Feature Requests, which is in the Video Management category (at least, that's what it's supposed to do).

Sure enough, I checked the admin section, and there it was ... waiting for an approval. So I promptly edited both view_video.tpl files (the one in templates_c as well) in order to change the text to "SUGGEST" a top clip, with a TITLE text popup which explains that this would require admin approval. Since most of the TITLE text popups won't work in the templates_c files, I had to edit both of them.

Stuff like that is really important on our site since we're trying to cater to absolutely everyone within the age ranges of 8 and 80 years of age. Especially the Silver Surfers (retired folks getting into computers) are on the rise like crazy in germany, and those people really need pages and sites that are as easy to use as possible. It's exactly that kind of attention to detail that separates a good site from an excellent site (sigh). :roll:

You're welcome. One other note. To save yourself a little bit of time having to edit two files, you do not have to edit any file in the templates_c directory. Those files are merely temporary cache files. If you edit the view_video.tpl file in your templates directory, you can simply delete the one in the templates_c directory. vShare will rebuild it based on your new one for you automatically.

And I've been translating the templates_c files pretty much exclusively since I have more of them than the files in the templates folder. Don't know why that is, but right from the get go there were a few more files in one folder than in the other. I figured that that was the best way not to miss anything? Man, that really bites!

Ouch... Ok... don't delete the files in your templates_c directory... not until you copy them into your real files. You are right in that the files in that directory are more plentiful than other directories. This is because any file (not just the ones in the templates directory) that you can edit gets cached there. This includes files located deeper into the templates directory (such as the CSS or Admin directories), etc. Fortunately, since the files are copies of your real files, you can just replace them with the files in your cache directory.
