HELP - Need Original for video_right_single

Hi there, everyone. Alright, I'm not sure what the heck happened, so please bear with me for a moment.
I thought that by enabling the video_right_single adv from within the admin section, that this would then enable me to play a clip or advertisement within the right.tpl or should I say in the right portion of the main page, underneath members, site stats, vote, etc. I had never used or activated this function before today.

Anyway, so I went ahead and played a clip, followed by adding the embed code to the video_right_single adv in the admin section. I also resized the table and video dimensions (no brainer) to make sure that the video would shrink down enough in order to display properly in the right side of the main page since my width there is only 180px. Clicked on update, and received success message with the correctly sized screen with the video that I had selected. Cool, awesome ... NOT. :x

Because then I checked the start page, and nothing there had changed.
Okay, so then I clicked on a videoclip in order to view it ... and saw the video_right_single code (actually the player with video) embedded in the previous, current, next section, at the top right portion of the screen. How in the hades did that happen ??? What's even weirder is the fact that I then removed the embedded video from within the admin section while leaving only the original table info. that was already there ... and guess what ... it STILL overrode the "now playing" portion that I just mentioned. Yeah, the video was gone, but the table was still there! Okay, fine, so let's just delete EVERYTHING out of there, hoping that my original "currently playing" returns to me .... but oh no, now the center portion of the previous/next/playing field was completely blank, displaying only previous and next.

WHAT the heck is going on !!!

Can someone post the correct default code that goes into the admins video_right_single section, and also point me to the right file in order to see where the error or bug is that is causing this weird behavior? If everything goes through more than one file, please let me know that too. The right.tpl or index.tpl shouldn't have anything to do with it since nothing changed there.
I'd really appreciate some input with this. Thanks a bunch!

Wow, what a long posting. From what I can see, you have two problems. Let's get started :lol:

1. video_right_single is not the main page. Rather, it's the ad box to the right of the videos (when you click on a video). If you are wanting something on the right hand side of the main page, you want the "home_right_box" ad section.

2. Remember when I was telling you a few weeks ago about the files in the templates_c directory? Remember how I stated that it was a temporary cache directory? That is going to be the reason why when you removed code out of those sections, things started to get whacky. If you add or remove things (especially things that have fixed sizes), it is going to be a good idea to delete the temporary cache version of the template file. Otherwise, what you end up with is a "hole" in your code (for example, a box 180px wide that is blank). If you add something to the video_right_single section and remove part of it, it's still going to be there until the cache directory gets updated. To make your changes show faster, you'll need to delete the copy of your view_video.tpl file in that templates_c directory. Then, refresh the video's page in your browser. Anything that you have added or removed should be visible then.

Okay, I'm not sure if I follow your above comment properly. If I understood you correctly, all I'd have to do is to delete both versions of view_video.tpl from the server side (templates & templates_c) followed by transferring the ones from my hard disk back onto the server, and then everything should be as it was before? I just want for that "triple window" with previous, next, and current video, to be displayed correctly again. That's the section that went kablooey on me.

Yep. That's correct. Also, make sure that you disable the "video_right_single" ad if you are not going to use it. You may want to disable it first, then do the steps you mentioned.

Sometimes my own stupidity amazes even me! Too much time in front of the screen. All I had to do, was to deactivate the function ... that's all. I went ahead and changed the files out afterwards anyway, just to be sure ...

Question: When I tried to add the clip to the right side of the main page, it did show up, but only way on top. Problem with that is that we're using "instant help" tool windows right above the videoclip, but now the text of the instant help (overlib) vanishes behind the new player. Weird as all heck, almost amusing, but obviously useless. We actually wanted to use the player at the bottom of the right side, just as filler. Is there some way to accomplish that, and if so, could you post specifically how that might be accomplished? Or maybe I should open another thread with that question since others might be interested in this as well?

You'll need to open up your right.tpl file, find the line that calls the home_right_box, and move it to where you want that section of code to be. By default, it loads at the top as that is where you would normally put ads if you have them on your site.

Oh yeah ... You da man !!!

That is way cool ... especially since you can add more than one clip in that particular area, thereby filling any amount of space that you want filled. I have 3 clips there now. Mega-Cool, awesome, humongously killer !!! :D
