Encoding to MP4 instead of FLV

Some of my FLV files have to fully download before it plays.

is there any way to encode to MP4 instead of FLV
so i can use qt-faststart to play and stream at the same time ?

Right i have ffmpeg with x264 sorted
how do i get it to out put to .mp4 not .flv what code do i need to change so i can use qt-faststart ??
