That error happens when your mySQL server's connection settings are set too low. Basically, mySQL is terminating the connections faster than your site can tell it what to do. If you are on your own server or on a VPS, you can fix this yourself by editing your my.cnf file and changing the wait timeout variable. If you are on shared hosting, you will need to ask your host to increase the timeout for you.
