On checked few vshare sites on IE8, looks normal for me.

i know other people sites are fine in ie 8 not mines.

this sucks because i been working hard on this site lately and i don't want to discourage any new members looking at it like what the hell is this! please help

It seems the problem with your template modification.
When you make any changes in both style.css and tpl files, check the site layout in IE and firefox
