Upgrade to 2.5

The last time I upgraded, I lost my users database.. Is an upgrade a must.. or just an option?

Proper upgrade will not lose any user or videos.

When you upgrade you will get new features and bug fixes, if you want you can wait for few more releases before upgrading.

if you are using version 2.4 now, you will need to upgrade it to version 2.5 before you can upgrade to a later release.
