Have you changed permission of folder to 777 ? That is allow everyone to write to folvideo folder.

yes that folder has 777 permision, to note after I uload say a vid file the flv file in folder flvideo inside that the files are 0 bytes & permissions can't be changed...

The problem is with your mencoder installation, that is not able to convert the video to FLV format. Try reinstalling mencoder, make sure convert command work on the server.

is there a command I can use to directly install mencoder? (I remember seeing one for ffmpeg somewhere on site)
And what command do I use to make sure it converts?

I was told it's needed for binaries
