Is there a way in the admin area to stop accounts becoming inactive regardless of how long the users has not logged in for?

Currently no option like that. In admin area you see users admin .

May I ask why is vshare setup to make accounts go inactive? What is the benefit of this? What is the logic behind this?

What happens if someone's account is inactive and they try to log in? Does it stop them from being able to use the site, or do they simply become active again? Do they get messages that are mailed to "all users"?
