If you want something easy to install your ffmpeg, mencoder, ffmpeg-php, etc.... requirements, go to http://www.ffmpeg.sherin.in/ and use this guys script. Works perfectly and tells you at the end if it was successful or not. Works on dedicated or shared hosts.
