Default Copyright standard disclaimer / issues

    Hi everyone,

I guess this would be an almost universal question - what are you doing about copyright laws? Does anyone have a semi-watertight standard terms and conditions I could look over? I've checked dozens of other video sites, and they all seem to be pretty much the same, so what I will likely do is take the best parts of them and create my own. Is that the go?

Many of us / most video sites out there, use the same video content, featured on other **cough** major video sites, which are normally fun tv commercials and the like. What's stopping the originator of the funny beer commercial or whatever to come along and claim copyright infringement on my site, and trying to sue me? I can claim that I did not upload the videos and they are user submitted but it could easily get messy.

Looking for advice on that topic.

The other question relates to the watermarking of videos - I don't want my site to end up stinking like ebaum where he basically watermarks other people's funny videos / pics etc. There's nowhere in the program interface to turn off watermarking - how can you watermark someone else's funny video if it doesn't belong to you - just wrong imho. So I've created a 1x1 black pixel image for my watermark and linked it nowhere.

Any thoughts? Apologies for the length of post, but they are very important issues to us all imho.

Most people just copy youtubes disclaimer and change the 'youtube' parts to there site. If the big guys want to stop the sort of copyright prohibition your referencing they will go the big guys first. Why try sue a little company or website that makes no money.

Im most cases if a copyrighted video is on your site and it is noticed you will receive a letter asking you to remove the video from your site.

I've been curious about this myself..

    I think I will copy YouTubes T&C

However I don't think there is anything wrong with watermarking someone elses video, no matter what it is..

The way I see it is the watermark signifies where it is hosted.. not to whom it belongs.

Well.. large traffic compared to what i have had the past 2 months..

I went from 40-60 visitors a day (500mb-1.5gb bandwidth) to in the past 2 days (since i started to advertise) 500 visitors a day and 40gb bandwidth/day

I am still getting more of my videos out there in hopes to continue to increase traffic and obviously adsense earning so i can afford the site ^_^
